Putin said that he respects the Constitution and will not run for a 3rd term

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he would leave the presidency at the expiration of the current term, because so says the law.

In his statement to reporters, the Russian leader stressed that he respects the Russian Constitution, which prohibits anyone from serving more than two presidential terms.

«I always strictly abide by and uphold the Constitution of the Russian Federation, – said Putin to a journalist’s question about if he goes ever from his post. – The Constitution clearly States: no more than two terms… I intend to honor that rule.»

While Putin was President for two terms until 2008 and then became Prime Minister, and included in his inner circle is the current head of the Cabinet of Ministers Dmitry Medvedev was elected President.

Then a law was passed stating that the period of stay of the President on duty is 4 years, so in 2012, Putin for the third time became President.

In March of this year Putin was re-elected for the 4th time. If he will continue to head the Kremlin, by the end of the period in 2024 will be in power for 24 years. Longer rules only Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, who held his post for three decades.

During the reign of Putin’s rating did not decrease, but only grows stronger. The leadership position was further strengthened after the opening of the Crimean bridge, when the Russian President took a ride behind the wheel of KAMAZ at the head of the column of cars. Many Russians appreciate the gesture, but the international community reacted negatively to the event.
