75 anniversary of the allied landings in Normandy | 97-year-old veteran once again jumped with a parachute

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the landing of allied troops in Normandy, 97-year-old world war II vet, Tom rice of Coronado (CA) jumped with a parachute again. Approximately 200 paratroopers took part in a symbolic jump, which repeated the events of 6 June 1944. In addition to rice in the reconstruction of the events of that day was attended by two veteran British.

When Tom rice jumped on the French ground for the first time, in 1944, German soldiers opened heavy fire. 75 years later the bottom he waited for the applause of the audience.

During the war Tom served in the troops of the United States. He says that the first jump was the worst in his life.

He had to jump first in my team but his hand is trapped. While he was released, the plane began to gain altitude to evade enemy fire. In the end, rice jumped too late and landed in the wrong place, where it was planned. Night he, with several comrades, was able to walk to the Norman farm.

Stories Volume, not a heroic. He recalls funny stories, tells the interlocutor about the feelings of 22-year-old boy, who went into the unknown, still remembers all the terrible moments of chaos and brutality of war. The veteran said that his unit survived a little more than 37%. They participated in the capture of 400 German soldiers. After the war he worked as a teacher and wrote a book about his military exploits.
