The opposition of Georgia stormed the Parliament because of the visit of the Russian delegation

In the capital of Georgia began to protest, which escalated into the assault of the Parliament.

The unrest began after the President of the International Assembly of Orthodoxy, and a representative of the Communist party of the Russian Federation Sergey Gavrilov started his today’s speech from the rostrum of the Parliament, sitting in the speaker’s chair. The oppositionists — members of the «European Georgia» and «United national movement» — prevented the Deputy to continue the session.

The public also took to the streets to protest against the Russian delegation. When Gavrilov and other deputies tried to leave the hotel Radisson Blu Iberia to go to the airport, they were doused with water. Protesters also burned pictures of Putin and shouted anti-Russian slogans.

But even after the departure of the Russians, the demonstration is not over. Now the opposition demanded the resignation of the speaker of the Parliament, Irakli Kobakhidze, at the invitation of Russian MPs arrived in Georgia.

Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze, the President, Salome Zurabishvili and the Chairman of the party «Georgian dream» Bidzina Ivanishvili, whom the opposition considers the informal ruler of the country, expressed support for the protesters.

«I fully agree with the fair protest of the Georgian society and call the organizers immediately to explain to the public the causes of the incident and to implement a rigorous response,» said Bakhtadze.
