As a result of the protests in Barcelona injured at least 37 people, dozens of flights cancelled

In Catalonia began to protest after the country’s Supreme court has recognized 12 leaders of the separatists guilty of illegal promotion of the independence of Catalonia. Nine received prison terms.

According to local police, they arrested two protesters — one at the International airport El Prat, and the other in mataró, for alleged assault on officers.

The protesters threw at police empty fire extinguishers and other items. Police confirmed that officers used bullets and batons to fend off a huge crowd at the airport.

The Spanish company AENA said it has been canceled not less than 108 flights. And in one of the airport terminals between protesters and police broke out brawl.

The Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez , said that the results of a four-month trial has proved that the attempt of separation in the year 2017 has become a «shipwreck.» Sanchez urged people to «defer extremist position» and «step on a new stage».

He said he hoped the prison sentences would be a turning point in the long standoff between the national authorities and legislators-separatists in Barcelona, which is considered the capital of the region of Catalonia.

The President of the region of Catalonia kvim Torre called the verdict an «act of revenge». He said it «will not prevent us to act on our resolve to build an independent state».
