Little Koala recovering after a forest fire

Cute Koala found September 8 in New South Wales during forest fires. The animal was one step away from death. The Koala was taken to a special hospital in Port Macquarie, where the staff gave her the name Kelly.

Little Kelly weighed only 275 grams and suffered from severe fungal infection, which lost almost all its wool. At the moment, Callie recovered and returned to normal.

«Just a bright moment. Now in Australia there is a lot of terrible and we wanted to share something good.» — I wrote to the hospital on his page in Facebook. «Look at Kelly today: weighs 1 kg, a fungal infection is gone, her fur is already growing. It is too early to look ahead, but we will be very glad when it attains 2.5 kg.»

Workers say that soon Kelly will be ready to it was released, but adds that this will happen more in the cold season — when massive forest fires will cease.

Fires in Australia have been ongoing since September: millions of animals face death thousands of hectares of forests destroyed. Ecologists from the University of Sydney are sounding the alarm: as a result of fires killed about 480 million mammals, birds and reptiles. The population of koalas is suffering the most, about 30 % of all individuals probably died.

«We learn a lot of lessons and know how was all this not ready.» said Dr. Kelly Lee, Executive Director of the organization for the protection of wildlife of Australia.

The GoFundMe page created by the Koala hospital in Port Macquarie called «Help thirsty koalas that have been devastated by the recent fires,» has collected more than 2.3 million Australian dollars (1.6 million U.S. Dollars) since its launch on October 31.

Forest fires — the number one issue in Australia at the moment. We previously wrote about how the woman drink water suffering from the thirst of the Koala.
