Over the Arctic finally disappeared the biggest in the history of the ozone hole

Scientists have confirmed that the greatest in the history of the ozone hole, located over the Arctic, finally delayed.

A hole formed in the beginning of this year and was monitored by the experts of the atmospheric monitoring Service of Copernicus (CAMS).

Ozone is usually between nine and 22 miles above the Earth’s surface and is a protective shield that is responsible for the absorption of solar ultraviolet radiation, which is harmful to humans and the planet.

According to scientists, such a gap has not been for almost a decade.

However, although some suggested that «unusual» a hole formed by humans, researchers from CAMS argued that it is not. According to them, the hole caused by a particularly strong and long-lasting polar vortex.

The unprecedented 2020 northern hemisphere #OzoneHole has come to an end. The #PolarVortex split, allowing #ozone-rich air into the Arctic, closely matching last week’s forecast from the #CopernicusAtmosphere Monitoring Service.

Consequently, the reduction of pollution created during quarantine because of pandemic coronavirus probably not have any effect.

But, according to scientists at the other hole, located over Antarctica, formed just the fault of the people, namely as a result of contamination by chemicals such as chlorine and bromine. Fortunately, in the past year, scientists have documented that the hole has reached its smallest size since its discovery.
