Police increased security for Navalny in a Berlin hospital

Berlin authorities have tightened security measures at the Berlin Charité after the poisoning of Navalny. This measure was taken after reports of improving the health of the opposition politician. On Monday, Charité confirmed that Navalny came out of a coma.

The police want to prevent further assassination attempts.

According to DER SPIEGEL, Navalny can speak and eat again. It is also likely that the politician will remember the details of what happened on board the plane flying from Tomsk to Moscow. His statements can pose a threat to those behind the attack.

According to SPIEGEL, German security authorities suspect Navalny was poisoned during an operation by Russian special services.

According to analysis by the Bundeswehr special laboratory, the attack used a variety of Russian nerve agent Novichok, which is more toxic than the one used in 2018 to poison former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter. The substance could have been produced in a special military laboratory in Russia.

After it became known that Navalny had been poisoned by Novichok, Merkel said that now questions arose that «only the Russian government can answer.» At the same time, the Federal Foreign Office summoned the Russian ambassador.

Now they are discussing sanctions against the Russian Federation, including the suspension of the construction of the German-Russian gas pipeline «Nord Stream-2».
