Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine claim to have made a breakthrough in the treatment and possible prevention of coronavirus.
The researchers said they had isolated a «tiny biomolecule» that «completely and purposefully neutralizes» the virus that causes COVID-19.
A drug called Ab8 was created, which is an antibody component that is 10 times smaller than a conventional full-length antibody.
According to the researchers, the new drug can be considered as a possible preventive measure against SARS-CoV-2.
Ab8 was studied by scientists from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston, as well as from the University of British Columbia and the University of Saskatchewan.
Everyone noted that it prevents the virus from entering cells.
Scientists are now working on a method to use Ab8 and are conducting tests. Perhaps the drug will be used by inhalation.
