This year on Halloween, a rare phenomenon will appear in the sky: the «blue moon»

A rare natural phenomenon will be spotted overhead this Halloween, but don't worry — it's hardly more intimidating than themed holiday costumes.

According to NASA, a so-called blue moon will appear in the sky. Despite the name, it is not blue at all and rather resembles an ordinary full moon — which, in essence, it is.

So what's the catch?

Blue moon is the term used for an extra full moon in a season or month. Since it is expected to be both October 1 and 31 this year, the second moon will be considered «blue».

Additionally, this year the full moon will be seen for the first time on Halloween in all time zones since 1944. The next Halloween full moon is only in 2039, reports McClatchy News.

If the sharp impressions for All Saints Day are not for you, it's okay: the next «seasonal» blue moon will appear on August 22, 2021.
