NASA will send a $ 23 million toilet bowl to the space station

NASA will send a new $ 23 million toilet to the International Space Station.

The new toilet will travel to the ISS tomorrow, September 29, aboard the Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo capsule as part of a regular mission.

The $ 23 million toilet was named the Universal Waste Management System (UWMS). It is 65% smaller and 40% lighter than the toilet currently in use on the space station and can serve much larger crews.

The Enhanced Bathroom Kit will be installed next to the current toilet at Node 3 on the space station.

As soon as he arrives, the ISS will test the work of the toilet in the microgravity of the space station. It features a 3D-printed titanium separator with two fans that helps pull waste and urine instead of gravity, as well as a urine funnel and seat specifically designed for female astronauts.
