The boy set fire to the mattress, trying to escape from the room where he was held in «inhuman» conditions

Two parents from Spring Hall, Florida, were arrested Monday on child abuse charges after their son set fire to a mattress while trying to escape a room where he was being held in «deplorable» conditions.

Sheriff Pascoe's office reported that 36-year-old Kelly Davis and 37-year-old Daniel Davis have six children, from infant to child aged 10, but only one of them has been kept locked in a bedroom since March without electricity, toys or any furniture. apart from the bed.

Pascoe County Sheriff Chris Nocco said the parents confessed to the officers that the dogs in their house had better living conditions than the boy. Presumably, he was punished for his «bad» character and behavior.

“What these people did was absolute evil. — stressed Sheriff Nokko. «Photos [from the scene] will never reflect what the child went through.»

Sheriff's office staff arrived on a call about a possible arson attack on Monday morning — after discovering that one of the couple's children had set fire to a mattress in an attempt to escape. Presumably, the matches were secretly given to him by his younger sister, having slipped the boxes under the door.

It soon became clear that the child had long been kept in dire conditions. The door to his room was locked from the outside, and a board was nailed to the outer frame of the door to prevent possible escape. The only window in the room was boarded up. In addition, the officers found feces on the wall and urine on the bedroom floor.

Daniel and Kelly Davis were charged with aggravated child abuse. All children are currently under the supervision of temporary guardians.
