Prison staff accused of abuse after making inmates listen to Baby Shark

Two former prison officers and their warden were charged with mistreatment after it was revealed that they forced inmates to listen to the song «Baby Shark» on repeat as punishment.

Gregory Cornell Butler Jr., 21, Christian Charles Miles, 21, and Christopher Raymond Hendershott, 50, are accused of conspiracy and ill-treatment of at least 4 prisoners.

According to authorities, the «inhuman» incidents occurred in November and December last year in the meeting room with an attorney at the Oklahoma County Jail. Some inmates remained there until two o'clock, forced to stand facing the wall and handcuffed all the time.

In affidavits in the case, investigators said that the regular playing of the song «caused undue emotional stress among the inmates,» who were likely «already under stress.»

Presumably, Butler and Miles systematically worked together and used this punishment because they believed that disciplinary measures did not help inmates «get better.»

Sheriff P.D. Taylor, junior officers were suspended immediately after the allegations became known. They have since resigned, and Hendershott has resigned.
