A brave nine-year-old girl offered to swap places with her 10-year-old classmate to protect her from the harassment of an alleged pedophile teacher.
James Loganbill, 58, who worked at a primary school in Olata, Kansas, took 210 photographs and 31 videos of the girl during class. According to investigators, after that he also used the footage for criminal purposes.
The man's behavior became known after the injured child's classmates noticed what he was doing and warned a fellow practitioner about the danger.
Now Loganbill will face prosecution (moderate offense) — but the child's parents, outraged by such minor charges, have called for a change in state laws. The victim's family requires that the persecution of a child under the age of 14 be considered a criminal offense and, accordingly, entail more severe penalties.
The girl's mother, whose name is not named to protect her daughter's identity, told The Kansas City Star that Loganbill not only filmed the schoolgirl, but also made unacceptable suggestions to her, such as asking for a massage.
“We quickly realized that existing laws did not protect children,” she says.
