Federal authorities have exposed an alleged fraudulent scheme through which rapper Nuke Bizzle raised more than $ 1 million after he released a song about getting rich through unemployment benefits.
The California hip-hop artist is accused of illegally receiving benefits under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, according to NBC Los Angeles.
According to the affidavit, the rapper — whose real name is Fontrell Antonio Baines — used at least 92 debit cards with third-party names tied to addresses he himself had access to to receive the $ 1.2 million.
Baines described his scheme in the song EDD, showing envelopes from the California Department of Employment in the video and telling how he «will go with them to the bank.» In the description of the video, the musician argued that the content of the video had nothing to do with reality — however, the authorities did not convince him.
The 31-year-old rapper is now facing 22 years behind bars on charges that include fraud and aggravated identity theft.
