Facebook has blocked the account of a Ukrainian politician spreading disinformation about Biden

Andrey Derkach's Facebook account was blocked «for violating the platform's policy» regarding «potential influence on elections,» Facebook reports.

For about a year, Ukrainian parliament member Derkach worked with Rudy Giuliani and a group of Ukrainian operatives to collect dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

“We have deleted this account for using our platform to influence elections,” a Facebook spokesman told BuzzFeed News.

According to BuzzFeed News, after Facebook restricted the distribution of the New York Post article due to unfounded statements about Biden, his son and their activities in Ukraine, Derkach continued to write about it on the social network.

Derkach told BuzzFeed News: «My Facebook account was blocked after the American media published my statement about the existence of a laptop belonging to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, which was used to make illegal payments to companies close to Biden and his family.»

Derkach said the ban on Facebook was tantamount to «directly interfering with the electoral process in Ukraine» as local elections are taking place this month and his party is participating in them.

Derkach also said he would not end his anti-Biden campaign, saying he would release additional information on the former vice president «in the next day or two.»

Much of the information included in Derkach's notes was circulated in the United States by Republican politicians. The latter accused Biden of pressured Poroshenko to fire Ukraine's attorney general to end an investigation into an alleged corruption scheme involving Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company whose board of directors included his son Hunter.

Derkach's relationship with Giuliani has come under scrutiny after news that U.S. intelligence agencies have warned the White House about Russian intelligence using Giuliani to relay disinformation to Trump.
