To date, 67% of domestic terrorist attacks in the US in 2020 have been carried out by white supremacists, according to a new report. At the same time, the victims of at least half of the crimes, presumably, were protesters.

The assassination of Aaron Danielson — a supporter of the far-right Patriot Prayer who died during the Trump Rally on August 29 — was the only terrorist act by the far left to occur this year. Self-proclaimed «anti-fascist» Michael Forest Reinoel, suspected of the crime, was shot and killed by police a few days after the incident.

According to experts, this is the first murder committed by an anti-fascist in the United States in 25 years, according to The Guardian.

In total, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), 41 politically motivated attacks were carried out by right-wing extremists, 12 by left-wing ones.

This year, the country has recorded fewer deaths from terrorist attacks than in previous years. According to CSIS, in 2020, terrorist attacks inside the country killed 5 people, while in previous years the death toll ranged from 22 to 66 people.

However, the decline in indicators does not mean that there is no reason for concern. Earlier this month, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolfe already expressed concern about the growing number of crimes committed by the far-right.

“As Americans, we all have the right to believe what we want,” he stressed, “however, we have no right to commit acts of violence in the name of those beliefs.”
