Six people arrested on charges of $ 6 million robbery at JFK airport

Six people will be prosecuted for stealing millions of dollars in expensive designer goods from John F. Kennedy International Airport, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Thursday.

The group used inside information to forge documents giving them access to cargo arriving at the airport. Fraudsters have stolen more than $ 6 million worth of expensive designer brands Chanel, Gucci and Prada.

All six were indicted on 22 counts in Queens Criminal Court. The crime group was led by David Lacarrier from Manhattan and Gary MacArthur from Springfield Gardens. Two truckers previously worked at John F. Kennedy Airport. Their charges include grand theft, conspiracy, and forgery, according to the district attorney.

Their first robbery was on January 31, 2020, when Lacarrier brought fake documents to the office for an air cargo importer. The documents provided Lacarrier, MacArthur and two other accomplices with access to the runway. They then used a tractor trailer to load four containers of Prada bags, clothing and accessories into their truck. In total, during the first robbery, the group stole Prada goods worth about $ 804 thousand.

The police found an empty trailer used during the robbery. The car was cleaned out with bleach, according to the district attorney.

On May 17, the group committed the following crime. One of the defendants pretended to be a truck driver, submitting forged documents authorizing the export of goods from the same air cargo import company, Katz said. This time, Lacarriere, MacArthur, Long Island City's Davon Davis and other accomplices fled with Chanel and Gucci products worth more than $ 4.4 million, according to the allegations.

As in the previous case, the police eventually found the trailer used for the robbery. It was filled with shipping tags, pallets, packing material.

After beginning surveillance of MacArthur, Lacarrier and Davis, the police found a warehouse where the group was keeping stolen goods.

During the raid, the police found boxes of goods: more than 3,000 Gucci bags and clothing items, as well as 1,000 wallets, jewelry and Chanel sunglasses. The items were valued at more than $ 2.5 million.

According to Katz, a total of 22 charges were brought against the six malefactors.
