Biden names Trump surgeon general to COVID-19 task force

President-elect Joe Biden has already selected the leaders of his coronavirus task force, including the surgeon general, who lost his job shortly after President Trump took office.

Vivek Murthy, who became the country's chief physician under President Barack Obama, will take over as one of the chairmen along with former FDA Commissioner David Kessler, Biden's deputy campaign manager Keith Bedingfield told the media.

According to sources, they will also be joined by Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith of Yale University. The names of the rest of the group — which will consist of 12 people — Biden plans to announce on Monday.

“Our work starts right now. — said Bedingfield, adding that the elections proved that Americans «want change» — People are ready for the country to move forward. «

Murthy, who was born in the UK to an Indian immigrant family, was appointed to a four-year term in 2014 by then President Obama, before Trump forced him to step down in April 2016.
