A helicopter with a donor heart crashed on the roof of a hospital, but the organ was successfully transplanted to a patient

In a chilling video, a paramedic stumbled and dropped his heart for transplant on the ground after a helicopter carrying an organ donor crashed on the roof of a Los Angeles hospital.

The video captured the moment when the pilot loses control of the aircraft and the helicopter crashes onto the site.

“Oh my god, my god, my god,” is heard the cry of one of the eyewitnesses below, as debris begins to fly from the roof.

Miraculously, none of the three people on board were seriously injured, and the donor heart was saved, despite the fact that one of the employees dropped it, says the Mirror.

An eight-seat private helicopter that flew from San Diego to deliver the precious cargo crashed at the helipad of the University of Southern California hospital on Friday afternoon.

Firefighters opened the helicopter's hull so that an ambulance team could rescue a donated heart from the debris, but Sky 5 footage shows a medical professional tripping and dropping the heart to the ground.

Fortunately, the heart was not injured in an emergency and was handed over to hospital staff at the scene, said representatives of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Just hours after the accident, the heart was successfully transplanted to the patient, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed to the media.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the accident.
