A group of Japanese scientists drew attention to ostriches, which can produce several types of antibodies that neutralize foreign bodies in the body. In February 2021, experts injected deactivated coronavirus particles into laboratory ostriches. With the help of this experiment, they were able to obtain a large amount of antibodies found in the laid eggs of birds.
The material obtained in this way served as the basis for creating a protective filter. Scientists treated it with a fluorescent dye and placed it in a mask. In case of contact with particles of COVID-19, its surface begins to glow in the ultraviolet spectrum. Testing of the novelty was carried out for 10 days with the participation of 32 patients who were diagnosed with coronavirus.
Japanese experts found that the masks worn on the face of the participants in the experiment reacted to ultraviolet light. Later, the team of scientists expanded the experience to 150 volunteers. The result again confirmed the effectiveness of the luminous mask. According to the head of the experiment, Yasuhiro Tsukamoto, in the future, such a mask will become an easy way to test for coronavirus, available to everyone.
