«These products are sold as a healthier alternative to cigarettes, but in reality they also carry long-term health risks of using their individuals and people around them,» said Governor Andrew Cuomo, by signing the law. «This measure closes another dangerous loophole in the law, creating a stronger, healthier new York for all.»

Some of the ingredients found in electronic cigarettes are considered to be toxic. The aerosol can contain nicotine, volatile organic compounds, chemicals that cause cancer, as well as heavy metals and ultra fine particles that can get deep into the lungs.

According to the Minister of health, the use of e-cigarettes among high school students increased by 900% from 2011 to 2015.
