The number of homeless in new York city increased by approximately 4% in 2017. According to the report of the Department of housing and urban development of the United States, from 553 000 homeless people in the United States today 76 501 people live in new York, almost 1,000 more than last year. 5% of the homeless in the city (or about 3,900 people) are living on the streets, still 59% (about 45,000 people) in shelters.
