President Donald trump has reduced the prison sentence of a native of Brooklyn of Sholom Rubashkin, who was convicted for fraud for 27 years.
Dozens of politicians from both parties and law enforcement officials, including the former head of the FBI Louis Friha, lobbied for the release of Rubashkin, saying that he was the victim of bad investigations and false testimony.
«A review of the sentence of Mr. Rubashkin and the decision of the President of trump was founded on the support of members of Congress and much of the legal community,» — said in a statement the White House.
As reported by the NY Post, 57-year-old father of ten children, had already served eight years.
Of Sholom Rubashkin called «kosher king» — he was Vice President of Agriprocessors, the largest kosher slaughterhouse, located in the state of Iowa.
In may 2008 a man was arrested after more than 500 Federal immigration agents came to check on the plant. Rubashkin was charged with fraud and money laundering.
The white house has stressed that it is not pardoned businessman, and only reduced the term of imprisonment. After his release from prison, Rubashkin will have to comply with conditions of parole. The President’s decision was supported by the representatives of the Democrats from new York.
