In the United States closed 8 thousand points Starbucks for training on racial prejudice

One of the most well known coffee chains Starbucks today, may 29, to suspend the work of about 8 thousand points to 175 thousand employees have completed mandatory training on racial bias.

What happened to Starbucks?

This is the second such training, organized by Starbucks. Exactly a month ago the company held a briefing in connection with the racial scandal that arose in one of the coffee shops of Philadelphia on April 12.

Then the Manager of the institution called the police because two African-Americans sat in the coffee shop, after placing the order. It was later revealed that the reasons for the arrest the men were not.

The incident sparked harsh criticism and accusations of racism from society and human rights defenders. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson apologized for the behavior of his employee and promised to ensure that his network does not happen again. Training to combat racism is one of the steps towards fulfilling the promises.

For several hours this afternoon, we will close stores and offices to discuss how to make Starbucks a place where all people feel welcome.

How is the training?

The briefing will be held after 2-3 hours of the day. Like last time, for training all employees will be divided into small groups.

As a virtual tour guide will make myself CEO of Starbucks Howard Schultz. The company has also attracted several experts and researchers to help develop the curriculum, there are , Sherrilyn Ifill, President of the nonprofit organization the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Heather McGee, President of the organization in the development of public policy Demos.

During the training, employees will talk about their own experience and together we will watch a movie about prejudice.

After the training, the company plans to share their findings with the public and hopes that other businesses are also using their experience.
