J Ouvert parade is postponed to the day time

According to the organizers of the parade, this year in Crown Heights night Caribbean festival J Ouvert will be held in the morning.

3 years in a row labor Day was marred by the fatal incidents, including the murder of a Deputy Governor Andrew Cuomo Cary GABA in 2015. So the parade moved from 4 to 6 o’clock in the morning.

According to police Commissioner James O’neill: «This is the best solution to ensure the safety of citizens participating in the carnival.»

Residents of the area are still afraid of the parade due to last year’s incident, when during the festival were shot and killed two people. They are worried that an event where people die, will never be safe.

A responsible decision was made a week and a half ago, after several meetings, employees of the police Department with the organizers of the festival. In these meetings a member of the Board of Flatbush Juman Williams said that the police is considering all options to ensure safety during the labor Day, namely, restricting access to the parade route J Ouvert.

Last year, in celebration of the police has increased patrols and installed dozens of light towers along the path of the occasion.

J Ouvert parade is traditionally held from the Grand army Plaza, down on the Boulevard Flatbush and Nostrand Avenue.
