Former new York mayor Michael Bloomberg donated nearly $2 billion to his Alma mater

The 108th mayor of new York Michael Bloomberg has donated to the University. Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for $1.8 billion, as reported in his column in the New York Times. This is the largest donation in the history of the University. The funds will go to the needs of poor students.

One of the richest people in the U.S. (7th in the Forbes list) and the planet (21st in the Forbes list) hopes that its contribution will help young people to realize themselves. The means of the Bloomberg University will extend financial aid packages to students and frees them from having to take student loans.

«The refusal of young people to join the University due to their insolvency undermines equal opportunities, which in turn strikes at the very heart of the American dream, writes Bloomberg. The idea of the American dream is that every person regardless of origin, class or social conditions, has the chance to rise through their own efforts».

Michael Bloomberg graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1964 and then made its first donation to his Alma mater (though much more modest — only $5).

The media Mogul was mayor of new York in 2001, and then re-elected three times by the inhabitants of the metropolis. The post of mayor Bloomberg remembered for introducing unpopular economic reforms, record unemployment and a significant decline in crime in the Big Apple, and his salary of $1.

Now as Michael Bloomberg is estimated to be approximately $47, 5 billion.
