A deadly fire in the Bronx could be caused by a simple attempt of the residents of the apartment to warm up.
62-year-old Nelson Rojas and his daughter, 14-year-old Yolanda Rojas, was discovered unconscious at about 12:15 p.m. on the fourth floor of a building in a residential complex Throggs Neck, located on Dewey Avenue.
The ambulance brought them to the nearest medical center Jacobi, but the father and the teenage girl could not be saved. According to the FDNY, 60 firefighters took about an hour to get the fire under control. During the operation, two employees received minor injuries.
«She was a person that was a pleasure to talk to – told Nyasia Ortiz, a friend of Yolanda Rojas. – I want everyone to remember it, it will be really hard to miss.»
Friends have told reporters that Nelson lived with his daughter himself and devoted all free time to her. ABC reporter Candace MacGowan reported that the girl’s mother today, January 15, arrived in new York from the Dominican Republic.
Judging by the conclusion of the fire service, the cause of the fire could be ignited bedding, which was near the electric stove. Some tenants complained about the lack of heat in their apartments, so probably the father and daughter tried to keep warm elementary, pododvinuv to bed plate.
