In Philadelphia confiscated fentanyl from China in the amount of $ 1.7 million.

Service of customs and border protection, U.S. (CBP) announced that the port of Philadelphia delivered a shipment of hazardous opioid from China. Fentanyl was discovered Monday during a routine check — with the help of a service dog, which smelled synthetic substance in the batch of iron oxide.

CBP officers in protective gear searched the barrel and found them to be 50 sealed packages with «white powdery substance». Officers tested it with the help of special equipment is able to identify more than 14,000 chemical compounds, and found that the unknown powder — fentanyl.

The Director of CBP Casey Durst noted that such «opioids, as fentanyl, or its analogues, are a serious public health problem, and the importation of huge quantities of these deadly synthetic drugs — a threat to US national security». Durst noted that CBP continues to protect Americans fighting «with the importation of illicit substances, including synthetic opioids, on the territory of the United States.»

CBP started to record such arrests drug parties in 2016. While the statistics are disappointing: in the first year, officers seized 440 pounds of fentanyl (more than 199 kg), in 2017 this figure had risen to 951 lb (431 kg), and as of April 2018 – already 984 lb (446 kg approximately).
