It became known that in Moscow, died a famous writer, playwright and screenwriter Eduard Uspensky. He was 80 years old. It was he who invented the Crocodile Gena, Cheburashka and characters of the cartoon «Holidays in Prostokvashino».

It is reported that the author died at home. At this moment, next to him was his wife. Recent months, the writer had serious problems with health. In early August, he returned from Germany, where he passed a long course of treatment. Unfortunately, almost immediately after his arrival in Russia, his condition deteriorated.

Doctors offered re-hospitalization, but he refused. The last two weeks, Eduard Uspensky almost couldn’t get out of bed. The life of the famous author left late in the evening of 14 August.

The assumption became widely known thanks to such cartoons as «Holidays in Prostokvashino», «ginger, Ginger, freckled» and «Gena the Crocodile». He wrote scripts and created charactersthat millions of people associate with childhood. In 2010, the author received a prize named after Korney Chukovsky in the nomination «For outstanding creative achievements in the domestic children’s literature».

In recent years, Eduard Uspensky clashed with the Studio «Soyuzmultfilm» the continuation of the cartoon about Buttermilk. The fact that the leadership of this organization made the decision to remove the cartoon without his consent. The author even wrote an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, however, did not wait for help from the authorities.
