In the kidnapping and murder of a student, Molly Tibbetts suspected illegal alien from Mexico

Yesterday, August 21 in Iowa was arrested 24-year-old Mexican Cristian Rivera. According to preliminary information, he admitted to the police in the kidnapping and murder of 20-year-old student Molly Tibbetts.

We will remind, the girl went missing July 18 in a small (little more than a thousand inhabitants) town of Brooklyn, going for an evening jog. Her disappearance caused a public outcry, the quest connected with the FBI.

It turned out that Rivera lived in the United States illegally. How long is not known. Investigators say 4 to 7 years. In Iowa, a young man worked on the farm. According to militiamen, he led them to a huge corn field, 12 miles from Brooklyn, where lay the body of Molly Tibbetts.

Two senators from the state have already criticized the current immigration system of the United States, calling the death of a student «a tragedy that could have been prevented».

«I can’t talk about the motive, said special agent Rick Ran. — Most likely, that day he followed her to the car and for some reason decided [her] to steal».

Brooklyn agricultural company Yarrabee Farms, on the farm where he worked the Mexican, said «shocked to discover that he is accused in the death of Molly Tibbetts». According to representatives of the company, he was a good worker.

As appears from judicial documents, having seen Molly on the street, Rivera got out of his car and ran with her. The girl took the phone and said he’d call the police. According to Rivera, he «panicked, angry, and next thing she knows, — as already bloodied body pulls Molly out of the trunk near the corn fields».

The exact cause of girl’s death will be determined by a forensic examination.

In Iowa there is no death penalty, so Christian Rivera, if he’s convicted he faces life in prison without the right of parole.
