The woman mistook a firecracker with a candle and lost fingers

30-year-old resident of Connecticut was seriously injured, having a firecracker for a candle.

It happened September 6, in the city of Bridgeport. The storm in the house on Lindley Street, where lived a family with 2 children, lost electricity. A trip to Home Depot for an emergency source of lighting was a failure: the shop was closed. And then the wife remembered that in the basement of the house saw the wreckage of the candles, forgotten by previous tenants.

«They brought them upstairs, — said the head of the fire Department of Bridgeport Richard Thode. — And when the woman lit one of them… was a blast».

«Candle» was a quarter of firecrackers from fireworks M-1000.

The blast in the house broke the window. The woman suffered serious arm injuries (losing a few fingers), also injured her face. At first, doctors took her to the hospital in Bridgeport and then was transported to the hospital Yale New Haven.

Other members of the family, fortunately, was not injured.

Employees of the Fire Department, along with Bridgeport police, Connecticut on another «candle.» She was blown up in a safe place. As a precaution, was also surveyed 2 adjacent houses — there are explosive devices found.

Charges to tenants of the house where the explosion occurred, will not be asserted. The office of the state fire Marshal Bridgeport ruled that they «were not criminal intent,» and qualified the incident as an accident.

But the explosions in fireworks factories are not uncommon. Recently, the explosion killed 19 workers of one of the sweatshops in the city of Tultepec.
