Locals blame police inaction in fatal accident in Queens

Police reported that 29-year-old man was killed in an accident this Sunday in Queens. The driver who to death has brought down the pedestrian, left the scene — now he’s wanted.

20-year-old Niklas Ahern and his friends had crossed the Continental Avenue in Forest Hills at approximately 17:30, November 11, when he was hit by a car. Friends and more than a dozen random witnesses are now giving evidence. According to them, the cause of the accident was a grey or silver four-door sedan, whose driver didn’t even try to slow down, rushing off away.

Niklas was left lying on the roadway with severe injuries. Friends called 911, but help arrived on the scene only after 15 minutes. The victim was taken to North Shore Hospital where was pronounced dead.

Local residents have long been indignant with inaction of the authorities, which led not to one death on the streets of their district. According to the inhabitants of Forest Hills, visitors are advised to use these quiet quarters to take a short cut and bypass the obstructed areas of traffic on adjacent streets. The petition that the police took action and stopped the «lethal transit», has already collected nearly a thousand signatures of residents. However, the measures are still not taken.

Mourning Niklas Ahern, residents of neighboring houses do hope that this latest tragedy, and the authorities will close the Continental Avenue for fans of fast driving.
