The NYPD rescued a hawk stuck in the middle of an intersection in Brooklyn

On Wednesday around 6 PM wayward hawk almost got hit by a car on a busy three-way intersection in Williamsburg. But police were able to corral the bird into a cage and rescue her.

Although it was not so simple. Video shot by spectators, shows that at first the hawk was sitting on the sidewalk, where close to him was a large crowd. Hundreds of children watched the rescue of rare birds. Police officers in new York brought a large cage, and one officer, using gloves and a towel, trying to get closer to the hawk and drive it to a safe place.

But the hawk flies away from the officers and sits on the window across the street. After a few minutes the bird takes off again and lands on the already busy intersection of Lorimer, Lee and Wallabout, where the bus almost hit her.

Officers and observers to help ward off cars and buses.

«It was just scary that it happened in the middle of the street and cars driving past,» — said the 36-year-old witness, Francisco páez journalists New York Post. I was afraid that the car might collide with it.»

The bird was rescued by two officers from the 90th precinct. The police wrote on Twitter that the hawk was suffering from lead poisoning of medium severity, and its plumage was covered with fat.

The rescued bird was taken to a local wildlife rehabilitation centre.
