The rink at Rockefeller center was arrested 9 people protesting against climate change

In new York city on Saturday, January 26, at about 14.45 fighters against climate change held at the famous ice rink Rockefeller Center protest. Police arrested 9 people, but charges them not yet filed.

Saturday’s protest was part of what activists have called «the universal day of non-violent civil disobedience and protest.» (Similar events were also held in other US cities as well as abroad.)

In Rockefeller center of the group lay on the ice, depicting the organization’s logo Extinction Rebellion — the hourglass in the circle. Other activists surrounded the rink, holding placards, and a few people climbed the Golden statue of Prometheus and hung it on a black poster with a warning that climate change threatens the death of humanity.

«It was one of the actions that we, the Extinction of Rebellion, had planned. The aim of this action was to create the most dramatic visual effect, which would have drawn attention to the urgency of the issue regarding the fact that climate change is an immediate and existential threat to life on earth,» said the promoter Rory Barreto.

The protesters want the government acknowledged the deteriorating climate on the planet and have enacted laws that would reduce 2025 emissions of carbon dioxide and also established a Civil Assembly to monitor climate change.

Despite the protest and police vodivshihsya activists, dozens of skaters continued to enjoy the winter weather and ice skating.
