In downtown Chicago the coyotes attacked people: 6-year-old boy was bitten in the head

In Chicago are hunting for coyotes after two attacks reported in the city center, is a 6-year-old boy, whom the animal was bitten in the head. On Thursday night, one coyote caught in North Side.

It is reported that the attack occurred against the backdrop of increasing populations of coyotes in the third largest city in the country, including in the area of Lincoln Park, where even temporarily closed the schools. Authorities are confident that the animal that attacked the boy, it was a coyote based on the interviews. This was stated to journalists Kelly Gandurski, Executive Director of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

This is the first case in the County, when the coyote attacked a person because prior to this message were false – people attacked by dogs that the victims were mistaken for coyotes.

According to Kelly Gandurski, the increase in the number of coyotes in the windy City can be caused by cold weather and lack of food.

«They are very smart and when they realize that people don’t hunt them, they are no longer afraid of people,» he added.

Coyotes adapt quickly. In Chicago animals make their lair, not only in parks and reserves, but in the nooks around the city. They eat almost anything from small mammals and dead birds to fruits and insects.

At Chicago Animal Care and Control has urged residents not to leave animals unattended on the street and not to litter.

According to Dr. Tom Wake, the temporary administrator of cook County animal control caught the coyotes first check for rabies, and then will take out for city boundaries.

«But I think the fear of rabies is not necessary. Since 1954, in cook County there have been no cases of rabies, no one of animal except bats,» said Dr Wake.
