The car crashed into the crowd of protesters in Charlottesville: there are dead

One person was killed and several were injured in the result of the fact that the car crashed into a group of protesters in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia, a few hours later after the police broke up the clash of white nationalists and their ideological opponents.

Authorities report that at least 6 people were injured from the collision, having received injuries of various degrees, ranging from minor injuries to serious injuries, life-threatening.

Some medics carried the wounded on stretchers. It seems that the victims were counter-protesters, but CBS News reporter Paula Reid reports that some of them could be locals.

On the materials of the scene is seen as a gray sedan crashed into the crowd of protesters, marching through the shopping district in the city centre. After impact, the driver tried to pull back, to escape from the scene of the crime.

White nationalists clashed with counter-protesters for a few hours before the incident in downtown Charlottesville. Ultra-right-wing activists and white nationalists planned to protest against the decision of the city authorities to remove from municipal Park, the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

President trump has condemned the violence in Virginia. At a press conference held today afternoon, he called the riots «a blatant manifestation of hatred, fanaticism and violence».

Governor Terry McAuliffe has already announced the state of emergency to help security forces deal with the establishment of order.
