In the state of new York mother and father were killed and their 4-year-old son was hospitalized in serious condition after the family fell from a height of 200 feet (60 meters) during a hike in the gorge. The eldest child was unharmed.
The bodies of the couple from Buffalo, 35-year-old Amanda green and 33-year-old William Greene, and their wounded son Alexander was discovered by the tourists. The tragedy occurred yesterday, August 20, in the valley of Zoar Valley.
«The two tourists who found the bodies, there were no cell phones,» he told NBC Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard. «When they waited for the third shouted, and he called rescuers». The injured child was sent to the hospital by helicopter, but rescuers also noticed at the rock shoes that are too big for the four year old child. Then they went looking and saw a 7-year-old Jacob. He was also taken to the hospital, but, according to preliminary information, the boy was not affected.
It is unknown exactly how and why the family fell off a cliff. Authorities believe they fell off a 200-foot drop.
Zoar Valley is located 35 miles South of Buffalo, is a popular place for kayaking and Hiking. The rocks here rise to 400 feet.
In recent years there have been a few cases when tourists were injured or lost, but deaths not reported. The investigation into the tragedy continues.
