The attorney General of new York Eric Schneiderman on Sunday said that he «hopes» that President trump will reach agreement with Democrats on the protection of the so-called «dreamers» from deportation. Otherwise, Schneiderman promised, he will challenge the White house’s position in court.
«We hope. The President met with Senator Schumer and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. They discussed the agreement. And we very much hope that this agreement will still be reached,» said Schneiderman during the interview on the radio show «the Cats Roundtable» on 970 FM.
«But while we are in the stage of judicial appeal against the decision on the closure of the DACA program, because we believe that motivated its closure was wrong.»
Last month trump over dinner in the White house met with the minority leader of the Senate, Chuck Schumer and minority leader of the house of representatives Nancy Pelosi. Both Democrats said they are close to an agreement with the President. At the same time, the White house offered no comment on plans to address the issue.
Schneiderman, in turn, led a group of 16 attorneys General of various States, which jointly filed a lawsuit against the President that made the decision to close the program.
In the lawsuit, Schneiderman and other attorneys General argue that the actions of trump against DACA are discriminatory and violate the equal protection clause for all guaranteed by the Constitution.
