Juror jury announced their decision in the U.S. holding giant Johnson & Johnson, one of the leading manufacturers of medicines, hygiene products and medical equipment. The company is accused that its products containing talc, provoked in 22 women developing ovarian cancer. In particular, we are talking about the baby powder J&J Baby Powder. The court held that the holding company is obliged to pay compensation to the victims in the amount of $4,14 billion.

Each of the 22 women should receive an average of $25 millionand if to consider that earlier Johnson & Johnson ordered to pay this client group $550 million, the total amount reaches $4.69 billion. This compensation reached a record high in 2018, and the 6th in the history of the United States associated with the defect in the production of the manufacturer. The jury’s decision was unanimous and, according to representatives of Johnson & Johnson, they were shocked.

The holding company intends to challenge the court’s decision because its management believes that the manufactured products can not provoke ovarian cancer, and is completely safe for buyers. Representatives of J&J claim that in the course of the proceedings was made serious mistakesthat influenced the final decision of the jury. However, lawyers for the plaintiffs believe otherwise. According to Mark Lanier, one of the lawyers for the prosecution, the company deliberately hid information about the dangers of the produced products.

Jean Eggen, a law Professor at the University of Udinese, I’m sure that this verdict will be a huge problem. He recalls: now there are more than 9 thousand similar lawsuits, and this precedent can become a signal for other cases. Because of this, Johnson & Johnson could face the largest for all history of company crisis.
