56-year-old customs official was arrested for trafficking weapons

February 6, officer of customs and border control USA of Santa Fe springs (CA) is filing Federal charges. According to police, he engaged in the illegal sale of firearms without a license, including illegally sold a short-barreled rifle to a man who was a detective undercover.

According to the statement of office of public Prosecutor of the state of California, 56-year-old Xu Wei, an officer in the sea port of Los Angeles and long beach, was taken into custody on Tuesday, February 5, and appeared February 6 in Federal court in downtown Los Angeles, where he has not yet asked to plead guilty. A court hearing is scheduled for February 26.

On Tuesday, agents of the Bureau for the fight against alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives searched the suspect’s home and collected evidence.

The criminal complaint alleges that since 2014, Xu sold or passed into the possession of at least 70 firearms through a dealer by the Federal gun licenses.

Court documents claim that Xu took advantage of his status as a law enforcement officer to buy, and then resell at least 14 guns that are not allowed for sale in California.

According to prosecutors, Xu was also sell or transfer firearms in the course of a few days or weeks from the date of purchase. Presumably, he ran his business, by placing ads on Internet sites.

According to the affidavit, a police officer undercover, posing as a buyer, purchased from Xu at a total of 4 firearms, 3 of which man generally sold directly from the trunk of the car. Federal prosecutors claim that the officer has acquired are prohibited for sale gun shop and increased short-barreled rifle.

Federal search warrant was executed on Tuesday and released on Wednesday. According to authorities, Federal agents seized more than 300 firearms, including numerous rifles, 2 short-barreled rifles and machine guns.

If Xu is found guilty in the arms trade without a license, he faces up to 5 years in Federal prison. According to the U.S. attorney’s office, charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm carries a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.
