The Governor of the state of new York today, 14 February, signed a law greatly extending the possibilities for the protection of minors from violence. Andrew Cuomo has dedicated this event to his visit to the local office Daily News. There, solemnly signed the act, he warmly thanked journalists for active coverage of the topic and explanation of all the politicians and residents of the need to adopt such a law. Olympic gymnast Sarah Klein, who had been abused by former national team doctor Larry Nassar, who told their story to journalists, was also at the signing ceremony of the bill.

«This is an incredible day for all survivors, now they will have access to justice», she commented the decision of the Governor.

Under the new law, victims can sue their tormentors for 55 years. The Catholic Church, like a number of other major non-state actors in the field of education, opposed the law, believing it can cause catastrophic financial damage to any organization associated with children.
