On Monday, the new York Senate passed a law that increases minimum age for tobacco and electronic cigarettes from 18 to 21. Now the decision remains with Cuomo.
The Governor has previously expressed support of this bill, because, probably, he will sign the bill soon. Once that happens, the new law will take effect in 120 days, and persons under the age of 21 will no longer be able to buy cigarettes within the state of new York.
«The impact of tobacco on health throughout life cannot be overstated, and in new York we strive to do everything we can to tobacco products do not fall into the hands of young people,» said Cuomo after the Senate voted for the bill.
This project promoted Senator Diane Savino representing Northern Staten island and part of southern Brooklyn. It has been warmly supported by the Assembly member Linda Rosenthal.
