New York could become the first state in the U.S. that would ban the declawing of cats

New York closer to becoming the first state in the US that would ban the declawing of cats. The state legislature may soon vote on this issue.

The bill will forbid to remove claws from cats or other animals, except when it is necessary from a medical or therapeutic point of view. All who break the law (if passed), will have to wait for the penalty to $1,000.

Schafer said that CNYSPCA gets a lot of inquiries on declawing cats, because the owners don’t want animals damaged their furniture. What they don’t understand is that cats need claws to protect themselves. If they fail to do this, we can become aggressive.

On the other hand, in the American veterinary medical Association shared his concerns that without the possibility of removal of claws the animal has more cats are euthanized or end up in shelters.
