Schoolgirl who escaped from the captivity of the kidnapper who killed her parents: «I was brave. He didn’t»

Recently in Wisconsin to two life imprisonments sentenced 21-year-old Jake Patterson.

Last fall, Patterson broke into a house in the town of Barron, where he killed a man and a woman and kidnapped their 13-year-old daughter, Jamie Kloss. Patterson was not familiar with Jamie, didn’t even know her name. As told he arrested once, returning from work, he saw a girl at the bus stop and realized that he «needed» and that he would kidnap her.

Jamie was looking for almost three months across the country, yet the girl did not asked for help in a nearby town – as it turned out, after 88 days she managed to escape from captivity.

Before Patterson was sentenced, the family lawyer read out a message from the girl herself.

Here are excerpts from this message:

«In October last year Jake Patterson took my mom and dad. I loved them and they loved me. They did everything they could to make me happy and protected.

I felt safe in my house, I loved my room and all my stuff. He took it all too. I don’t even want to see your house or your belongings because of the memories of that night.

I loved hanging out with friends. I loved to go to school. I loved to dance. And he took it. Too difficult for me to go public. It’s the usual stuff that do all people, but I can’t.

But there’s something that Jake Patterson will never be able to take from me. He cannot take my freedom. He thought he could own me, but he was wrong. I was smarter than that. I watched his routine and she regained freedom.

Jake Patterson will never take from me courage. He thought he could control me, but it’s not. He acted like a coward. I was brave. He didn’t.

He can never take my spirit. He can’t prevent me to be happy and move forward. I will be able to accomplish many things in life, and he didn’t. It needs to be «closed» forever.»
