Florida returned the death penalty

Florida returned the death penalty

Governor of Florida Rick Scott resumes executions after a break of more than 18 months. The break was caused by the U.S. Supreme court’s decision on the recognition of the state law on capital punishment unconstitutional. According to the court, the procedure for imposition of the death penalty in Florida had shortcomings, as it allowed the judges to come to conclusions different from the conclusions of the jury. Now the decision on the imposition of the death penalty must be unanimous.

Shortcomings and the punishment resumed. In this regard, previously deferred in connection with the decision of the Supreme court, the penalty Mark Asay, who killed Robert Lee Booker and Robert McDowell in Jacksonville in 1987, scheduled for August 24.

Esey will become the 24th person to be executed during the tenure of Governor Rick Scott (in 2011).
