On Wednesday, Fox News has reported about how a group of residents of Oregon filed a petition to move the border of Idaho to the West to include part of their state.
The project «More Idaho» would allow some districts of Oregon to join the conservative Idaho state, which, according to the supporters of the project better suits their values.
If the project is implemented, all but 14 of the 36 counties of Oregon, will be part of Idaho.
«They love looking at Idaho because of our atmosphere, our values, — said the Governor of Idaho brad little in an interview with «Fox & Friends». — It does not surprise me».
According to him, there will be many governmental and legal barriers that must be overcome. The decision about change of borders of Idaho and Oregon must pass through the legislature of both States and the U.S. Congress.
The project is in its very early stages, but the activists of «the Greater Idaho» has already filed the petition, the County Douglas and Josephine in Oregon to conduct a local referendumon which the question is asked about whether the district become the district of Idaho. The referendum could take place in November.
«Rural districts are increasingly outraged by the laws of the state of Oregon that threaten our sources of livelihood, our rights to arms and to our values, said Mike McCarter, one of the main activists of the project. — We did not vote for these legislators, but rural Oregon in the minority, and our voices are ignored now. This is our last resort».
Regardless of how events will unfold, the Governor of Idaho said the state will retain its name.
