The father of an autistic child is outraged by the additional fees of a dentist for «behaviour management»

Michael Johnson was unhappy after saw an additional amount on account of the dentist my son. It was the «behaviour management» for 10-year-old Johnson, who suffers from autism. According to CBS 2, Johnson refuses to pay this additional amount.

«He has a lot of problems with sensitivity,» said Johnson about his son Wesley. «They said that he did not like to lie on the back.» Wesley has special needs and he was diagnosed with autism. His physician accompanied him during what was supposed to be a normal visit to the dentist in November.

«Before we got the bill, did not say anything about the existence of the problem,» recalls Johnson. «There was a specified fee for «behavior management» in the amount of $75, which we have never before seen.»

Johnson said took the son to a children’s dentist in NAPERVILLE, Illinois over the years.

Johnson says: «To the question about the fee she said it was because he needed extra help. It took a little more time, because the reception was delayed, and they made an extra account.»

Insurance company Johnson won’t cover the fee, and he said that it’s like a form of discrimination. «Additional margin frustrating,» said Johnson. «It seems that this is another additional price that you have a child with special needs».

So what’s the deal?

Dr. Ian Marion of the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Dentistry said: «This is what we know and speak quite regularly.» Marion explains that this billing code (code medical services to pay for) a dentist who has run out of allotted patient time. And this is the code that is not covered by insurance companies.

«Ideally the money will go to paying for the extra time the doctor and staff,» says Marion. But the doctor explains that unlike the case of Wesley, it is best to explain the Supplement before taking, if possible, and definitely before you receive an invoice. «We know that people don’t like surprises in the accounts, therefore, not superfluous to talk about what happened during the reception,» says Marion.

He noted that many dentists advocate that more insurance covered those additional costs.

Dentist Wesley has not yet responded to a request for comment on the situation.

Dad Wesley said that he will continue to fight against surcharges.
