Four members of Congress from new York propose to approve legislation that would protect illegal immigrants who were involved in the rescue and cleanup of the world trade center during and after the events of 9/11.

From Queens Congressman Joseph Crowley and three other new York Democrat held a press conference Sunday at city hall to discuss the proposal.

Legislators say that the proposed bill will allow workers without documents, who were involved in Ground Zero, to obtain lawful status in the United States. We are not talking about citizenship as such, but these people, according to the document, can obtain a residence permit. The legislation will give them lawful permanent resident status.

Crowley said that in the past this was done for those who served in the U.S. armed forces or as foreign translators for the U.S. armed forces.

The idea of the legislation was not accidental. Last month on the orders of Governor Andrew Cuomo (act of clemency) from deportation were released Carlos Candon, who participated in clearing the world trade center on September 11, 2001. It would be fair if the same opportunity would have received and other illegals.
