In California, the monkey’s suing photographer

In the ninth circuit court in San Francisco considered the lawsuit filed against the photographer of wildlife from… the name of the monkey.
More precisely, on behalf of the group defenders of animals PETA, which represent the rights of monkeys from Indonesia. And no, this is not a joke.

A few years ago a photographer from San Francisco, David Slaterwas in Indonesia, where a monkey named Naruto took his camera and did a selfie (pictured). Photo Slater used later in the book. Now animal advocates say that violated the copyright of Naruto, as the monkey is the author of the picture, and she is owed royalties from a book of the photographer.

In turn, lawyers of the defendant require PETA compensation in the amount of 250 thousand dollars, as, according to them, the case is too long.
«It’s been almost two years, is absolutely unfair,» said Andrew Dew, attorney David Slater.

PETA did not remain in debt. «What’s really unfair is the fact that people have done with the monkeys,» — said the chief lawyer of the organization Jeff Kerr. «They are endangered, their habitats are capturing people, killing them».
«I don’t know, it seems Naruto doesn’t care, he did not appear in court,» — ironically answers the lawyer of the photographer.

It is unknown exactly when the court will make the final decision on this unusual case.
