Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" approved in 70 countries around the world, home to about 4 billion people. It was purchased in the amount of 448 million doses, and now everyone who has been vaccinated against coronavirus with this drug will not be able to enter the United States. It all started when, during an inspection of one of the vaccine factories, WHO experts discovered a discrepancy with good production practices and suspended the approval of Sputnik.

According to the new requirements, those wishing to visit the United States must be vaccinated with drugs recognized by the WHO and FDA. These currently include Pfizer/BioNTech, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Moderna and Sinovac. Restrictions may also affect citizens vaccinated with Indian Covaxin, which is also not on the list. Russian authorities have already responded to discrimination against the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" in the States.

State Duma deputies and representatives of a private equity fund are complaining about the WHO, which refuses to certify a domestic drug for use. Misunderstandings related to Sputnik V also affected the recently held UN General Assembly in New York, to which they refused to allow delegates from Russia without an approved vaccination. Their movements were also restricted in Strasbourg. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs say that discrimination against the Russian drug began in March 2021.

Currently, entry into the United States is prohibited for foreigners who have visited South Africa, India, Iran, Great Britain, Brazil, and Ireland over the past 2 weeks or one of the Schengen countries. Russian citizens can still enter the States with a negative COVID-19 test and a valid visa, but the rules will change in November.
